Market Update

Montclair’s Farmers’ Market was bustling as usual today. Summer has definitely arrived and with it came cherries, plentiful blueberries and Jersey tomatoes.
The Ladies™ did their usual eatathon- Kielbasy samples from Stefan and Sons, honey sticks from Tassot Apiaries and half-sour pickles on sticks from Pickle-Licious. I, on the other hand, am not a creature of habit so I bought some purslane. I’m always intrigued by any new greens – I since discovered it is a weed – $2.50 for a bunch of weeds!
Plenty of recipes to follow this week for the shark, clams and scallops from Shore Catch: cherries and weeds purslane.

I wanted to buy some of the fish there yesterday, but didn’t end up getting any. I did get some nice tomatoes, broccoli/cauliflower, and apples. It was busy, but I’m usually there much earlier than 10:15. Next week I’ll go BEFORE the gym. I think everyone will appreciate that.
Is it worth going around 8:30?
I’m ashamed to say I’ve never made it there early! I was definitely too late yesterday. One of these days will be there early!
Last summer when we moved in, we had a TON of purslane flooding our gardens and lawn. This year we seem to have hardly any yet. (Boo.) What did you do with it?
We had potato and purslane salad last night. I’m going to post the recipe soon. Shame it’s not plentiful.
