About This Little Piggy Went To The Farmers’ Market Blog
I’ve often heard people say they end up buying a lot of fresh food from the Farmers’ Market that then goes to waste as they don’t know what to do with it. Hopefully this will offer some inspiration to cook some great family meals.
This blog is about me trying to feed my obsession with good food, as well as feed my family (King Marv and four-year old twin girls, The Ladies™) with fresh, tasty, real food from my local farmers’ markets. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love an imported mango as much as the next tropical fruit aficionado, however my best food memories are of local, seasonal food. Best fish and chips? Whitby, North Yorkshire. Best lobster? Martha’s Vineyard. Best bread? My father’s – straight from the oven. So to that end, I’m going to try to cook with as much as local produce as possible. Store cupboard basics will be the exception as sadly there are no olive groves in New Jersey, although I would love to proved wrong on that.
About This Little Piggy
I previously enjoyed a career in marketing and as a brand strategist and am now filling my days taking care of my twins – The Ladies™ just outside of NYC in suburban wilderness. My love of food started at home as my mum made sure we ate very well. Later on life I discovered cheese when I spent a year in the Alps as a student. More recently I took La Technique at the French Culinary Institute in SoHo, NYC (you should see me cut an onion) where I really enjoyed dressing up in my chef’s whites. I enjoy using the invaluable techniques I learned there when cooking for my family.
I am available for cooking lessons, children’s cooking parties and food photography. Please email me at thislittlepiggywentATgmailDOTcom

Abi
Well, I am biassed because I am Lisa’s Dad. She is a superb cook and her food tastes as good as it looks in the pictures.
Yes, I “Make the best Bread ever”, according to the Ladies. I am looking forward to baking for them all here when they visit us next and also baking in Montclair when we visit early next year.
I must give credit to the book “Bread Alone” by Daniel Leader for the excellent bread recipes and techniques. Also Montclair restaurant, Giotto, for allowing me to ‘assist’ in making their delicious breads on one occasion. Tasty bread to compliment their fine food.
PS. The Ladies™ also think my ice cream is the best.

Hannah
Thanks Hannah! It has been a lot fun cooking and eating!
What a wonderful idea for a blog! I’m always so excited when I stumble across good foodie blogs, especially considering I now have a local produce window right outside my front door.
On another note, thanks for stopping by my blog. Grenoble is indeed beautiful — I believe the cable cars cost us about €5 return each? Lucky for me, they also have a student discount!
Have a wonderful summer,
Elise
As the Director of Public Relations for the Kingston Farmers’ Market I am ever so thankful for the mentions. Please make sure you sign up for the newsletter on the website: http://www.kingstonfarmersmarket.org The newsletter is sent out weekly. It lets you know what some of the specials are, highlights some of the vendors and events and gives the recipe for the chef demonstration of the Healthy Eating Series (2nd & 4th Saturday each month.)
Thanks again!
Jillian,
Thanks for your comments. Hope to be back at the Kingston Farmers’ Market soon – love that place – such a great variety of vendors and a great atmosphere! Would love to be involved in a healthy eating demonstration sometime!
hi Lisa
I’m glad you like the blossoms! You don’t need sparkling water, I’m not exactly sure why it says to, it must interact differently with the flour. I heard beer works well too, and of course you could my usual egg batter. there’s a link on the page for my ricotta stuffed blossoms and I use egg for that. I think white wine will work, and I also heard mixing egg whites water and flour is another method…
Let me know if you make them
Dennis
Thanks Dennis – will be sure to let you know. I have fried them before but not used sparkling water, just a regular egg batter, but I guess it makes them lighter.
Hi Lisa,
Heard from Mum of recent success – well done!
Hope you enjoy stay in the mountains (hills)
Love,
UJO
I just heard about your blog tonight from a mutual friend in Toronto, Michelle Gordon. It is fabulous. I think I may be your Canadian counterpart (except mine are not twins). Love it!
