Sloooow Cooked Pulled Pork and Coleslaw

Q: What’s the key to meltingly tender shreds of delicious pulled pork?
A: Cooking it slowly, (with about ten hours’ worth of patience for that wonderful texture) and a surprise ingredient to get that perfect sweet, tangy taste.
I’d made pulled pork before but was never 100% satisfied with the results. Then, when fellow Barista Kids writer, Stacey Gill, told me her husband’s surprise and not so secret ingredient, I just had to make it as the perfect dish for The Ladies™ cowgirl party. That ingredient is root beer and I used the rather splendid Dry Root Beer from GuS (Grown Up Sodas) in this recipe.
Simply slow cook the pork in root beer until it falls apart into a delicious, melting pile of tender shreds. The root beer makes it so sweet and tangy, you would swear it has been smoked.
You can find this pulled pork recipe and a creamy coleslaw recipe at my What’s for Dinner column on Barista Kids. It is perfect make-ahead food for the Super Bowl.
Start by making a rub, then searing the rubbed pork.
Then slow cook for 10 hours in root beer to get the perfect pulled pork to make the perfect sandwich.
Sit back, grab a beverage of your choice and enjoy as you enjoy the game!
